Bringing Color to Your World
My name is Amanda Naomi Smith and I am a practicing visual artist living and working in the Augusta, Kansas area. I am primarily self-taught and have exhibited work in Kansas, Colorado, and New York City at various local, regional, and national shows. Due to growing up in Colorado, I am heavily influenced by natural environments and I focus my work on ordinary, everyday scenes from life in an effort to share “glimmers” with the audience.
The artwork I create is made from primarily slow-dry acrylics and canvas or gesso board. I draw inspiration from the things I see in my everyday life living in the United States midwest, in the Flint Hills, Kansas region. I have curiosity around what we are surrounded with that holds understated beauty. I use my art to draw attention to everyday occurrences that are sometimes unnoticed and I hope that by viewing my art, people will be drawn to making these observations themselves. When I am able to create art showing these daily beauties, it helps me feel more connection to my community and the land that I live on.
